The Humble King is McKenna’s children’s book in progress for her senior project at Oral Roberts University. It is expected to be completed + published by early 2027.

“This story will tell about something we are pretty familiar with, which is the “Christmas Story” (or rather, the story of Jesus’ birth).

However, the way I want to tell it is different. I remember as a child, my family and I would celebrate Jesus’ birth on Christmas every year. I never truly and fully understood the significance of this event.

This book will give children a unique perspective on why we celebrate Christmas and how God’s love is shown through it. It will demonstrate how Jesus chose to descend from heaven to live among us, and how He did all this just so we could have a relationship with Him.

Jesus didn’t choose a royal palace or comfort to come and save us. He chose a little stinky barn to enter the world.

I want children to walk away from reading this book understanding the depth of God’s love more than when they first opened it.
